Peter Warren was first author on a publication to the 2019 Turbomachinery Conference and Exposition in Phoenix, Arizona. The paper is being considered for journal publication and was nominated for Best Paper. Peter got to work closely two engineers from Siemens on this work (Jason Williams and Paul Zombo), and they are co-authors on the paper. The work was on the non-destructive evaluation technique known as acoustic thermography. This technology can be implemented to find cracks or defects on turbine blades used in power generation or aerospace fields. Experimental analysis was conducted at Siemens Casselberry Labs, and this was compared to numerical simulations conducted at the COSMOS labs. w and innovative technique were the acoustic signal could be induced via laser, was proposed in this work, with initial simulations being conducted.
