STOVL Aircraft: We explored STOVL aircraft (F35) and their impact to ship crew for fun. One of the things we found is that compressible jet impingement is not only dangerous, it is really quite intriguing. Real-World, Rough Surface Aerodynamics

Roughness is part of the real world. My first job dealt with understanding the aerodynamic effects of debris and bugs had on wind turbine performance through promoting transition to turbulence. Interestingly, the impacts of roughness are much broader and is a topic that CFAL continues to evaluate. Specifically, roughness goes beyond impacting insects and is currently driven by recent trends in advancing ice accretion models as well as additive manufacturing. Check out our work in:
