The UCF Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering brings together a diverse faculty whose research is supported by federal agencies, national laboratories, and industry partners. These collaborations provide students with opportunities to participate in research, internships, fellowships, and other hands-on learning experiences.
Through our programs in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and biomedical engineering, students develop strong technical foundations while gaining the knowledge and skills needed for professional growth and lifelong learning. MAE graduates pursue careers in a wide range of fields, including aerospace, advanced manufacturing, biomedical technologies, artificial intelligence, energy systems, and space exploration.
The department is part of UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science and is home to the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research (CATER), which advances research in aviation and power generation, and the Center of Excellence in Hypersonic and Space Propulsion (Hyperspace), a hub for research in hypersonic flight and space propulsion technologies. MAE faculty also collaborate across disciplines through UCF’s Faculty Cluster Initiative and other university-wide research programs, working with colleagues in medicine, computer science, materials science, optics, and the sciences to address challenges in areas such as advanced energy systems, biomedical technologies, artificial intelligence, disability and aging, and sustainable engineering.
Located in Orlando, Florida, UCF benefits from proximity to a thriving network of aerospace, defense, energy, and technology organizations. Partnerships with companies and agencies such as Siemens Energy, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Mitsubishi Power, GE Aerospace, Boeing, and Pratt & Whitney support collaborative research and provide students with opportunities for internships, experiential learning, and career development.
