Shad Abdiel obtained his doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta, and also has three master’s degrees, including two from the University of Central Florida. With extensive teaching experience, he has served in various academic roles across four universities in three countries. From 1995 to 2002, he began his career as a lecturer assistant, followed by his role as principal instructor at UCF from 2003 to 2007. In 2008, he became an instructor/professor at Digital College (a private higher education college, and an Autodesk Authorized Training Center). From 2009 to 2018, he worked at the University of Alberta. Since 2018, he has been an assistant professor, including a stint at the University of Prince Edward Island branch in sustainable design engineering from 2021 to 2022, and currently holds the position of an associate professor.

His professional journey began in 1994 as an engineer at Consulting Offices, where he worked until 2002. His research expertise includes robotics and inverse dynamics. From 2007 to 2008, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Albian Sands, an oil mining company in Fort McMurray, conducting research in elastodynamics, piezoelectric MEMS harvesting, and bone conduction for the hearing-impaired. As a research analyst for Mansour Engineering in Edmonton from 2013 to 2021. He focused on the dynamic behavior of multilayered piezoelectric fibers in smart structures, a topic central to his Ph.D. research. Since 2018, he has been the CEO of Engineering Dr. Inc. in Canada. Throughout his career, he has supervised, managed, and executed over 170 engineering projects funded by prestigious organizations such as Kiewit Industry, NSERC, NASA, Lockheed Martin, Albian Sands Oil-Shell, Sysco, DARPA, CATSS, and NSF. He continues to be an active researcher in AI, biomedical engineering, manufacturing, MEMS, robotic dynamics and solid mechanics.
