Sihong Yan is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCF. He received his doctoral and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from Pennsylvania State University, under the Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence (VLRCOE) program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before joining UCF, he served as postdoctoral scholars at two VLROCE centers of Penn State and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Yan’s research areas include multiphase and thermal fluids problems related to hazardous atmospheric conditions including, icing clouds, freezing drizzles and hailstones. In addition to atmospheric research, he is also an active researcher in advanced vertical lift vehicles, with a particular focus on utilizing advanced experimental methods to study rotor aerodynamics and fluid-structure interactions.
